Chromatic Fantasy: Music, Mathematics and Magic in Doubleweave
For more than twenty years Jennifer Moore has been exploring relationships between weaving, mathematics and music in her doubleweave wallpieces. In this multi-media presentation, Jennifer will show how she has used doubleweave pick-up as a medium for her geometric designs and color harmonies. She will explain the basic principles of the golden proportion, symmetry movements, tessellations and fractals, and show how she has used them in her work. The program will culminate with an animated video of her weavings dancing to the music of Bach. Jennifer Moore received her MFA in Fibers from the University of Oregon, where her area of specialization was exploring mathematical patterns and structures of music in doubleweave wall hangings. She has exhibited throughout the country and overseas and received numerous awards for her work. She has been featured in Handwoven, SS&D and Weaver’s magazines, and in the Fiberarts Design Books Three, Four and Seven. Jennifer lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and travels throughout the world to study weaving and teach workshops.

WEAVING 101 Study Group, May 10, 12:00 p.m. Elizabeth Pilley presents: “How to Use a Paddle to Create a Mixed Warp” Whether you want to design a warp using 4 yarns or 40, a warping paddle can make the job easier. Elizabeth will demonstrate how she uses a paddle to create a warp, and she will share ideas and tips for creating mixed warps. This method can work for both back-to-front and front-to-back warping methods; it works with almost any weave structure and is especially helpful for color-and-weave effects. In addition to the paddle itself, this technique uses equipment that most of us already have in our studios. Everyone is welcome! Elizabeth learned to weave 12 years ago when she lived in New Hampshire and is a member of WHI and Wandering Vine Weavers. Recently she has been weaving yardage for clothing. She weaves, sews and works in her home in Wausau, WI. |
